Browns waive QB Connor Shaw

The Cleveland Browma on Thursday waived quarterback Connor Shaw.

Shaw missed all of 2015 due to a thumb injury he sustained in the Browns' pre-season opener.

In 2014, Shaw signed with the Browns as an us drafted free agent, and spent the first 16 weeks of the season as a member of the Browns' practice squad.

Shaw started Week 17 at the Baltimore Ravens in 2014 on Dec. 28, where he completed 14 of 28 passes for 177 yards and one interception.

Richardson suspended one game by NFL

New York Jets defensive end Sheldon Richardson on Thursday was suspended without pay for the first game of the 2016 regular season for violating the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy.

Richardson will be able to rejoin the Jets on Monday, Sept. 12 after their game on Sunday, Sept. 11 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Richardson is allowed to participate in all of the Jets' pre-season practices and games.

Seahawks Sign LS Nolan Frese, Waive LB Khairi Fortt

The Seahawks made a roster move Tuesday, signing long snapper Nolan Frese, an undrafted rookie free agent out of the University of Houston. Linebacker Khairi Fortt was waived to make room on the 90-man roster.

Frese, who spent rookie minicamp with the Carolina Panthers, was the starting long snapper for the Cougars for three seasons, and per the school’s website, did not have an inaccurate snap on 156 attempts last season. Frese, who is listed at 6-foot-2, 233 pounds, was named a third-team All-American by Chris Sailer Kicking & Rubio Long Snapping.

Frese and Drew Ferris, another offseason addition, will compete in training camp for the long-snapping job that was held by Clint Gresham from 2010 to 2015.

Fortt, a former fourth-round pick out of the University of California, signed with Seattle in May after previously spending time with New Orleans, Cincinnati and Jacksonville over the past two seasons.

Browns sign fourth-rounder LB Joe Schobert

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Browns on Friday sign 2016 fourth-round pick LB Joe Schobert.

Schobert (6'1, 245 lbs) played in 45 career games at Wisconsin with 28 starts, where he amassed 172 tackles, 13.5 sacks and seven forced fumbles.

The 99th overall pick in 2016 earned All-America honors in 2015, along with being named the Butkus-Fitzgerald Big Ten Linebacker of the Year and the Jimmy Demetral Team MVP.

Schobert Attended Waukesha West High School in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Steelers release Suisham; sign Johnson

The Steelers have released kicker Shaun Suisham with the designation of Failed Physical, the team announced today.

“Unfortunately Shaun incurred a setback in his recovery from knee surgery that won’t allow him to compete in a timely manner,” said Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert. “Shaun has played a significant role in our success during his time in Pittsburgh. He has been the consummate professional on the field and in our community. We wish he and his family all the best in the future."

Suisham joined the Steelers in 2010 and converted 124-of-141 field goal attempts and each of his 173 extra point attempts through the 2014 season. He spent the 2015 season on the team’s Reserve/Injured List.

The Steelers also announced the signing of running back Brandon Johnson. Johnson was a tryout participant for the Steelers’ 2016 rookie mini-camp and played collegiately at Penn State.

Lions waive DT Dominick Jackson

DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers on Tuesday waived defensive tackle Dominick Jackson.

Jackson was an undrafted free agent this year out of Alabama. Detroit signed Jackson on June 1.

The Lions roster is now down to 89 players, as no corresponding move was announced by the team.

Jaguars sign rookie DE Yannick Ngakoue

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The Jacksonville Jaguars signed rookie defensive end Yannick Ngakoue on Tuesday.

"It feels great," Ngakoue said. "It's a dream come true. I'm just ready to make plays for my team. … It's a great time for me and my family."

Ngakoue (6-2, 252 lbs) was selected by the Jaguars in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

"It's crazy," Ngakoue said. "I was always underrated my whole life, so this is just a blessing to be able to sign that piece of paper and be an official Jaguar, to be part of this great organization and to be part of this brotherhood of the NFL. It's something I can tell my kids and grandkids years from now and they can use it for motivation as well."

Ngakoue registered 88 tackles and 33 tackles for loss in three collegiate seasons at Maryland, a total that included 21.5 sacks.

Panthers sign LT Michael Oher, coach Ron Rivera

CHARLOTTE, NC -- The Carolina Panthers announced on Friday that they have resigned left tackle Michael Oher through the 2019 season, and extended their contract with head coach Ron Rivera through the 2018 season.

Rvera's contract was going to expire after the 2017 season before the signing.

"It was an easy decision. Ron has worked extremely hard, and we are thrilled with our current direction," general manager Dave Gettleman said. "Mr. Richardson has established a great culture here, and Ron is a big part of that."

Oher signed a two-year contract with Carolina a year ago after being released by the Tennessee Titans following an injury-plagued 2014 season.

Dolphins sign RB Kenyan Drake

The Miami Dolphins on Thursday announced they have signed running back Kenyan Drake.

Drake was a four-year letterman (2012-15) at Alabama, where he played in 42 career games with six starts. Throughout his career, Drake totaled 233 carries for 1,495 yards (6.4 avg.) and 18 touchdowns and added 46 receptions for 570 yards (12.4 avg.) and four touchdowns. He also returned 19 kickoffs for 505 yards (26.6 avg.) and one touchdown.

Drake won two national championships for Alabama (2013 and 2016) and provided a memorable highlight with a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter of Alabama’s 45-40 College Football Playoff National Championship victory over Clemson on Jan. 11, 2016.

The Dolphins drafted Drake in the third-round selection (73rd overall) in the 2016 NFL draft. The Dolphins have now signed all eight of their 2016 draft choices.

Bills sign QB Cardale Jones

The Buffalo Bills on Tuesday signed 2016 fourth-round pick quarterback Cardale Jones after the team's OTA practice on Tuesday.

Jones led Ohio State to the national title in 2014 by defeating Wisconsin, Alabama and Oregon en route to Ohio State's first college football playoff championship.

"I am going in here knowing that that Tyrod [Taylor] is our starter," said Jones. "I am going in here knowing that EJ [Manuel] is our backup. I am going in here learning, working as hard as I can working with Coach [David] Lee in the film room, on and off the field. Whatever happens after that I guess is just a product of great circumstances."

Bucs sign K Roberto Aguayo

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced Tuesday that the team has signed kicker Roberto Aguayo, a second round pick by the team in the 2016 NFL Draft.
 
Aguayo was selected 59th overall out of Florida State. He earned first-team All-American honors in all three collegiate seasons he played.

Falcons sign DE Nordly Capi, G Michael Huey

The Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday signed defensive end Nordly Capi and guard Michael Huey.

The Falcons also waived defensive end Josh Dawson.

Capi was originally signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as a college free agent following the 2015 NFL Draft.

Huey, 6-4, 317 pounds, was originally signed by the Seattle Seahawks in 2011. He played for the Arizona Rattlers in the Arena Football League.

Dawson was signed as a college free agent following the 2016 NFL Draft.

The Falcons roster now stands at 89-men.

NFL Twitter account bizarrely hacked, false tweets written stating death of Roger Goodell

The NFL's official Twitter account on Tuesday was hacked by an unknown identity, who wrote false tweets saying that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell passed away at the age of 57.

Don't worry, Goodell is alive and well.

The tweets have since been deleted.

Harrison Smith signs extension with Vikings

Harrison Smith, 27, signed a five-year extension with the Minnesota Vikings on Monday that will make him the NFL’s highest-paid safety with a per-year value of $10.25 million, according to reports.

The Vikings selected Smith 29th overall in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He has been credited with 26 pass deflections, 12 interceptions and 5.5 sacks in 54 career starts.

Bears sign OL Nate Chandler

The Chicago Bears signed offensive lineman Nate Chandler, the team announced on Friday.

Chandler made 19 starts for the Carolina Panthers from 2012-2014.

Chandler did not appear in a game in 2015 due to a knee injury in September that caused him to end up on the injured reserve list.

Jets Sign DE Harris, Waive DE Okoye

The Jets have signed defensive end Shelby Harris and have waived defensive endLawrence Okoye.

Harris (6'2", 288) was Oakland's seventh-round pick (No. 235 overall) out of Illinois State in the 2014 NFL Draft. He played in eight games the past two seasons with the Raiders, recording 14 tackles and his first pro sack in the Raiders' final game last season at Kansas City. He was waived by Oakland last month.

Okoye (6'6", 304) was signed to the Jets' practice squad as an offensive lineman last November after entering the league with San Francisco as an undrafted free agent D-lineman in 2013. He also spent time with the Cardinals last year before coming to the Jets. He had returned to the defensive line this offseason.
