Steelers sign Davis to four-year deal

Statement from the Steelers website.

The constant smile on Sean Davis' face grew a little bigger today when the Steelers second-round pick was signed to a four-year contract.

Davis' dad wanted nothing more than for his son to be drafted by the Steelers. The elder Davis, who has battled cancer, is a Steelers fan, especially a fan of Coach Mike Tomlin. Davis was thrilled that his dad's wish came true, as he is the person who is his biggest inspiration.

"He always worked two jobs, even when he battled cancer," said Davis. "Seeing him, he is my role model, my inspiration. He is why I work so hard so he can sit down and relax and rest and watch our dreams come true.

"My dad always wanted me to play for Coach Tomlin. It's a dream come true for real. He always wins. He is a great coach and he is all about winning. This team wins Super Bowls. It's a top caliber team. It's just awesome. It's the football tradition here. It's 100 percent football and that is what I am all about."

Davis, a safety from Maryland, played in 50 games in four seasons with the Terrapins, starting 40 of them. He was a player who was all over the field, accounting for 305 tackles in four seasons. His senior year he led the defense with 70 solo stops, and was tied for the team lead with three interceptions.

While he will be used at safety, he brings versatility with him as he also played corner at Maryland.

"I am a very versatile player," said Davis. "I can do a lot. I played strong safety, I played cornerback at Maryland. Moving around playing safety is what I do. I am very comfortable back there. Mentally I feel like I am capable of doing a lot. Physically I can do a lot. I am big and strong like a safety and quick like a corner. My mental game, I see it at a different angle that you might not get at safety and vice versa. I feel like I am well prepared."

Davis is the fourth of the Steelers draft picks to sign, joining sixth-round selection Travis Feeney and seventh-round picks Demarcus Ayers and Tyler Matakevich who previously signed.

Bucs Add A.J. Francis to DT Corps

Statement from the Buccaneers website.

Though the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 90-man training camp roster is relatively set, it continues to get minor tweaks as the team works through its offseason program. On Tuesday, the Buccaneers swapped out one spot on their defensive tackle depth chart, signing third-year veteran A.J. Francis and waiving second-year man Davon Coleman.

Francis joins his fourth team after beginning his career in Miami and later seeing time in Seattle and New England. He'll have a good opportunity to compete for a reserve role in Tampa, as the Buccaneers have little experienced depth behind the front-line trio of Gerald McCoy, Clinton McDonald and Akeem Spence.

The 6-5, 330-pound Francis first entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Dolphins in 2013. He was claimed by the Patriots off waivers in early September and later ended up on New England's practice squad for the bulk of the season. Francis went back to Miami for the final five weeks of his rookie campaign when his original team signed him off the Patriots' practice squad, but he did not see any game action.

After a 2014 season spent on injured reserve, Francis made the Dolphins' 53-man roster last year appearing in one regular-season contest and recording one tackle. He was then waived in November and claimed by the Seahawks, who got him into two contests before the end of the season. Francis signed a tender offer with Seattle as an exclusive rights free agent this spring but was waived a week ago.

The Buccaneers signed Coleman to a reserve/futures contract in February. He had previously played for Dallas and spent time on Chicago's practice squad.

Eagles Make Roster Moves Prior To OTAs

Statement from the Eagles website.

Just before the start of 2016 OTAs, the Eagles made an adjustment to the 90-man roster on Tuesday morning, as tight endM.J. McFarland and linebacker Ty Powell were added. To make room for McFarland and Powell, quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson and offensive lineman Brett Boyko were released.

A 6-5, 255-pound rookie tight end from UTEP, McFarland ended his collegiate career with the Miners after playing his first three years at the University of Texas. McFarland provides depth behind Brent Celek, Zach Ertz, Trey Burton and the rest of the tight end group.

Powell is a former seventh-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2013. After spending time with both Seattle and the New York Giants, Powell found his home in Buffalo in October of his rookie season. He appeared in nine games as a rookie before increasing that number to 14 games the following season, playing for now-Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. Powell was a standout special teams player for Buffalo and was their top reserve linebacker. As he looked to build momentum heading into 2015, he suffered an ACL injury in mid-August, causing him to miss the entire season.

New Orleans Saints Announce Roster Moves After Rookie Minicamp

Statement from the Saints website.

The New Orleans Saints announced Monday that they have signed wide receiver Jake Lampman, linebacker Tony Steward and tackle Tyrus Thompson and waived defensive back Mike Caputo, quarterbackGriffin Neal and wide receiver Shane Wynn following the club's rookie minicamp. The announcements were made by Saints' Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.

Lampman, 5-11, 200, participated in the club's rookie minicamp on a tryout basis after a five-year career at Ferris State, where he finished his career ranked sixth all-time in school record books with 2,201 yards receiving. The Haslett, Mich. native wrapped up his college career in 2015 by claiming All-GLIAC accolades after leading Ferris State with 731 receiving yards on 52 catches (14.1 avg.) with eight touchdowns and adding 14 rushes for 124 yards and four touchdowns.

Steward, 6-1, 241, was signed by New Orleans after participating in the rookie minicamp on a tryout basis after spending his rookie season with the Buffalo Bills, who selected him in the sixth round (188th overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Clemson. As a rookie, the Hastings, Fla. native played in seven games for the Bills and recorded two tackles (one solo). In four seasons at Clemson, he recorded 224 tackles, 4.5 sacks, two passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Thompson, 6-5, 330, participated in the club's rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. Originally selected in the sixth round (185th overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings out of Oklahoma, Thomas spent the second half of his rookie year on the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad and then spent the offseason with Detroit. The Pflugerville, Texas native started 29 career games for the Sooners from 2012-14, including 24 his final two seasons. He opened all 13 games at left tackle as a senior for the Sooners and capped his college career with first-team All-Big 12 honors from conference coaches and second-team honors from the Associated Press.

Williams' extension solidifies safety spot

Statement from the Bengals website.

The Bengals locked up the middle of their defense for the next five years Tuesday when they announced a four-year extension for safety Shawn Williams.

Williams, who turned 25 Friday, would have been a free agent after this season but the Bengals added four more years on a deal believed to be in the $20 million range and keeps their starting safeties intact through the 2020 season.

On the first day of free agency back in March they inked George Iloka, 26, to a five-year, $30 million deal. They opted to go with the youth of Williams as Reggie Nelson signed in Oakland last month off his first Pro Bowl appearance at age 32 for a two-year deal with a $5 million average.

Although Williams, a third-round pick in 2013, has just four NFL starts, they're encouraged with what he did while Iloka was injured last season and when Nelson left the play-off game early in the second quarter. In the three games Williams started in place of Iloka, the Bengals held the Browns to a field goal, the 49ers to 14 points and the Broncos to 17 points in regulation. In San Francisco he ended one drive with an interception at his 1.

But it was what he did on the field with Iloka and Nelson that produced arguably the biggest play of last season. Williams saved his first NFL interception for the grandest of moments, a remarkable sliding, diving catch on the sidelines at the Steelers 45 with 5:34 left in a game Pittsburgh led, 10-6, sparking Cincinnati's 16-10 victory.

They were in a three-safety look because the Steelers were in a run formation with just one receiver and multiple tight ends. Williams, who cut in front of fullback Will Johnson, stayed on him even though the play had broken down with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger extending it a good 10 seconds.

The win lifted the Bengals to 7-0 for their best start ever and provided the pivotal two-game swing in an AFC North title chase the 12-4 Bengals won by two games over the Steelers.

With the Bengals now  signing draft picks and over the $166 million salary cap with the Williams deal, they probably signed him out of their roll-over salary cap money of about $6 million. Before the Williams' deal, spotrac.com reported the Bengals were $560,000 under the cap. It's believed they're also working on extensions for other contract-year guys, such as running back Giovani Bernard and fullback Ryan Hewitt. Hewitt becomes a free agent after three years because he was undrafted.

They'd also like to get extensions for cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick and right guardKevin Zeitler, playing on their fifth-year options as 2012 first-round picks.

Last Thursday was the first day that unrestricted free agents can be signed by other clubs and they won't count against the compensatory formula. As they have done recently, the Bengals don't appear to have anyone on that horizon but have turned to their own to get something done. But the fate of their own UFA cornerback Leon Hall could be decided soon.

Hall, 31, a first-round pick in 2007, has played all nine of his seasons in Cincinnati. Since the end of the season, the Bengals re-signed starting corner Adam Jones, are making plans to try and re-sign the other starting corner, Kirkpatrick, and drafted Houston cornerback William Jackson in the first round.

Teofilo impressed the Bolts at Rookie Mini Camp over the weekend as a non-contract participant.   The 6-3, 315-pound lineman started 40 straight games at right guard for Arizona State, and was a two-time honorable mention All-Pac-12 selection. He also made a name for himself at the Sun Devils’ Pro Day when he maxed out at 43 reps on the bench press, which would have been tops at this year’s Scouting Combine.

The Swedish born Johannson initially joined the Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Marshall this year, while Hekking spent all of 2015 on IR after suffering an injury during the preseason.

Panthers sign six tryout players

Statement from the Panthers website.

CHARLOTTE - The Panthers have signed six tryout players who participated in the team's rookie minicamp. Their names are listed below.

> RB Jalen Simmons
> WR Miles Shuler
> TE Braxton Deaver
> OT Jordan Rigsbee
> LB Jared Barber
> CB Shaquille Richardson

Carolina entered the rookie minicamp with five available roster spots. To make room for the six signings, the team parted ways with three players - cornerback Brandon Boykin, cornerback Ras-I Dowling and wide receiver Jenson Stoshak.

Boykin signed as a free agent in late March, but the Panthers like what they've seen fromJames Bradberry, Daryl Worley and Zack Sanchez - the three cornerbacks they selected in the 2016 NFL Draft.

"I think those three guys really have an opportunity to impact us this year," head coach Ron Rivera said after rookie minicamp practice. "I was really pleased with the movement and skills they showed."

The Panthers now have 88 players on the roster (90 is the limit).

Browns sign DB Eric Patterson

Statement from the Browns website.
Eric Patterson
The Cleveland Browns have signed DB Eric Patterson. He participated in this weekend's rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.

The Browns roster is currently at the maximum of 90 players.

Patterson is 5-9, 200-pounds and entering his second NFL season out of Ball State. Originally signed by New England as an undrafted free agent in 2015, Patterson appeared in two games with the Colts and one with the Rams. He also spent nine weeks on the Rams' practice squad and one week on the Colts' practice squad. A native of Tampa, Fla, Patterson graduated from H.B. Plant High School.

Broncos sign linebacker Dekoda Watson

Statement from the Broncos website.

Dekoda Watson
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- With the OTA phase of offseason work set to begin in just over a week, the Broncos bolstered their linebacker corps by signing unrestricted free agent Dekoda Watson on Monday.

The 6-foot-2, 245-pounder is in his seventh season after breaking into the league as a seventh-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2010. He played four seasons for the Bucs before spending the 2014 season with Jacksonville and Dallas and the 2015 campaign in New England.

Watson played three regular-season and two postseason games last season for the Patriots over two stints -- one a two-week stint in September and the other beginning in Week 17. He finished with two tackles in the regular season and added a pair of assists in the playoffs.

The 28-year-old linebacker has played in 73 career games, making seven starts, the most recent coming with the Jaguars in 2014. But most of his work has come on special teams, which he has played extensively throughout his career.

Watson has 45 career special-teams tackles, three fumble recoveries and three blocked punts during his career. He even was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Month -- a rare accolade for a non-punter, kicker or returner -- in November 2012 after a month in which he blocked a punt and recovered a fumble that led to a touchdown.

Defensively, his career has come in 4-3 schemes, in which he played outside linebacker, both on the strong and weak side. In the Broncos' alignment, he likely projects as an inside linebacker, although he could provide additional depth on the outside in a pinch if needed.
Watson provides an insurance policy of experienced depth at a position group that lacks it, with all the returning linebackers other than Brandon Marshall having moved up in the wake of Danny Trevathan's free-agent departure for Chicago.
Watson's signing also comes after the demarcation point for free-agent signings and losses to count towards next year's compensatory draft-pick calculation, so his arrival will not affect the Broncos' eventual complement of picks in 2017.

Titans Waive QB Zach Mettenberger in Flurry of Moves

Statement from the Titans website.
Zach Mettenberger
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Titans waived quarterback Zach Mettenberger on Monday morning, a move that provides further clarity at the position behind starterMarcus Mariota.

Mettenberger, a sixth-round pick by the Titans in the 2014 NFL Draft, started 10 games over the past two seasons in Tennessee.

The Titans made a number of roster moves on Monday. The team added four rookie players to the roster - fullback Sam Bergen (Rutgers), receiver Ben Roberts (Montana), defensive end Mike Smith (Southern Miss.) and cornerback Bennett Okotcha (Texas-San Antonio). Each of the players took part in the team's rookie mini-camp on a tryout basis.

In addition to Mettenberger, the Titans also waived defensive end Iosia Iosia, tight end Kevin Greene and receiver Rashon Ceaser.

In March, the Titans signed veteran quarterback Matt Cassel. The Titans also have quarterback Alex Tanney, who performed well in the season finale at Indianapolis at the end of last season, on the roster.

Mettenberger, who played at LSU, had plenty of opportunities in Tennessee over the past two seasons while filling in for injured starters. His final stats with the team: 208-of-345 for 2,347 yards, 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. The Titans were 0-10 in Mettenberger's 10 starts, however.

Cassel, a veteran of 11 seasons in the NFL, signed with the Titans after playing previously with the Patriots, Chiefs, Vikings and Cowboys. He provides a veteran presence behind Mariota, who's headed into his second season.

After signing with the Titans in March, Cassel said he'll be prepared to play if needed.

"Your mindset is you have to be prepared to play,'' Cassel said after joining the Titans in March. "But I also do understand the situation here. It is not one of those things where you are going in to compete for the starting job. You are going in to get yourself better and learn a new offense and get yourself ready to play.

"But at the same time, you have to do whatever you can to help the team and the organization. Sometimes when you are in the back-up role it is understanding how to help the other player be the best he can be."

Cassel has thrown for 17,003 yards and 101 touchdowns in his career. Cassel started 15 games for the Patriots in 2008 when Tom Brady suffered a season-ending in the preseason, and he started 15 games each in 2009 and 2010 with the Chiefs.

Cassel started seven games for the Cowboys last season, completing 119-of-204 passes for 1,276 yards, five touchdowns and seven interceptions, with a passer rating of 70.3.

Mariota broke rookie records for most touchdowns (19), completions (230), passing yards (2,818) and passing attempts (370) in his first NFL season in 2015.

Bears add three more undrafted rookies

Statement from the Bears website.

The Bears on Sunday agreed to terms with three players who tried out at their rookie minicamp over the weekend: Connecticut defensive lineman Kenton Adeyemi, Colorado State-Pueblo receiver Kieren Duncan and North Dakota State punter Ben LeCompte.

Adeyemi appeared in 12 games each of the last two seasons at Connecticut, recording 31 tackles, one sack and five tackles-for-loss in 2014 and 28 tackles, two sacks and 3.5 tackles-for-loss in 2015.

Duncan played in 46 games over four seasons at CSU-Pueblo, catching 112 passes for 1,914 yards and 14 touchdowns and averaging 27.7 yards with one touchdown on 39 kickoff returns and 10.4 yards on 36 punt returns.

LeCompte, a Barrington High School graduate, was a two-time FCS All-American and three-time All-Missouri Valley Conference performer who ranks fourth in FCS history with a 44.55 punting average. He had 14 punts of at least 60 yards and two of at least 70, including a career-long 75-yarder.

Wide Receiver Ricardo Lockette Announces Retirement

Statement from the Seahawks website.

Ricardo Lockette is retiring from the NFL after four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. Lockette, who first came to Seattle as an undrafted free agent in 2011, suffered a serious neck injury in Seattle’s win at Dallas last November.

Lockette signed with the Seahawks as a raw, speedy receiver out of Fort Valley State—he won an NCAA Division II national championship in the 200-meter dash—and after spending most of his first season on the practice squad, he made a splash late in the year, catching two passes for 105 yards in the final two games of the season, including a 61-yard touchdown.

After spending 2012 on San Francisco’s practice squad, Lockette returned to Seattle in 2013, and over the next three seasons he established himself as a fan favorite with his speed and big hits on special teams. In 2013 with Lockette serving as one of Seattle’s gunners, the Seahawks allowed just 82 punt return yards all season, the sixth-lowest total in a 16-game season in NFL history.

In 34 career games, Lockette had 22 catches for 451 yards and four touchdowns, while tallying 11 tackles and two forced fumbles on special teams. One of Lockette’s most memorable plays, however, did not show up on the stat sheet, but his blocking on Marshawn Lynch’s 79-yard touchdown run at Arizona in 2014 was the perfect example of the things that helped Lockette make his mark: speed, toughness and effort.

As Lynch broke through the line of scrimmage, Lockette met Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson in the middle of the field about 10 yards from the line of scrimmage to help spring Lynch for a big gain. Lockette then caught up to the play on the sideline to block Johnson a second time, also giving Patrick Peterson a solid shove for good measure as Lynch continued downfield, and then just as Lynch was approaching the end zone, Lockette caught up to the play one more time to block Antonio Cromartie.

“Fantastic,” offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said following that 2014 win at Arizona. “The effort that he gave, I think that’s a microcosm of a lot our guys and the effort that they’re willing to go to, and the strain. We talk about that strain and finish all the time—it was cool. You see him off the (sideline), standing out of bounds, hitting those two guys and he still sprinted and caught up with Marshawn again and was able to knock that guy off at the end of that play. It was just a great effort by him.”

Noah Spence Signs Deal

Statement from the Buccaneers website.

With training camp still nearly three months away, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are down to one unsigned rookie.

Defensive end Noah Spence, the first of two second-round picks made by the Buccaneers in the 2016 NFL Draft, signed his first NFL contract on Thursday afternoon. Of the seven players drafted this year by Tampa Bay, only the other second-round selection, kicker Roberto Aguayo, still needs to complete a deal.

Five other draftees got their contract work done last weekend during the Buccaneers' rookie mini-camp, beginning with fourth-round safety Ryan Smith and fifth-round offensive lineman Caleb Benenoch last Thursday. First-round cornerback Vernon Hargreaves inked his deal the next day, with sixth-round linebacker Devante Bond following later that same afternoon. Finally, sixth-round tight end Danny Vitale put pen to paper on Saturday.

Draft-pick deals have been easier to complete since the new CBA in 2011 put a rookie salary structure in place. Still, considering that several of this year's picks - particularly Hargreaves and Spence - figure to see significant playing time in the regular season, it's helpful to get such distractions out of the way early. Spence, for instance, signed his deal after participating in a rookie field session as part of Phase 2 of the Buccaneers' offseason program. Soon, the Bucs will begin full-fledged OTA practices as Phase 3 begins.

Spence finished his college career at Eastern Kentucky, where he racked up 11.5 sacks, 22.5 tackles for loss and 15 quarterback hurries, 63 tackles and three forced fumbles last fall. Prior to transferring to EKU, Spence was the Ohio State Buckeyes' leading sacker in 2013 with 8.0, along with 14.5 tackles for loss and 52 tackles overall. Considered one of the best pure pass-rushers available in this year's draft, Spence was the 39th player selected overall.

Spence is one of two key additions made to the Bucs' defensive line this offseason as they seek to improve their pass rush significantly. The team also signed coveted unrestricted free agent defensive end Robert Ayers, who had nine sacks for the New York Giants last year. The Buccaneers are hoping to find their first double-digit sack artist since Simeon Rice in 2005.

Bears sign Bellard, waive Jefferson

Statement from the Bears website.

The Bears on Thursday added an 11th undrafted rookie free agent, signing Texas State offensive lineman Adrian Bellard.

The 6-5, 314-pound tackle started all 12 of his school's games each of the past three seasons and was a three-time winner of the Texas State John O'Hara Memorial Offensive Lineman of the Year Award.

Last season Bellard was voted honorable mention All-Sun Belt Conference after registering 56.5 knockdown blocks and not allowing a sack. He played in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl all-star game in Los Angeles after the season.

To make room on the roster for Bellard, the Bears waived safety Anthony Jefferson. Jefferson joined the Bears last year as an undrafted free agent from UCLA but spent his entire rookie season on injured reserve with an arm injury.

The Bears announced the signings of 10 undrafted rookie free agents Monday: Harvard tight end Ben Braunecker, Duquesne offensive lineman Dan Buchholz, Mississippi cornerback Taveze Calhoun, Villanova linebacker Don Cherry, Georgia Southern receiver Derek Keaton, Buffalo tackle John Kling, Liberty receiverDarrin Peterson, Oklahoma State cornerback Kevin Peterson, UTEP outside linebacker Roy Robertson-Harris and Wisconsin-Oshkosh tight end Joe Sommers.

Bills sign sixth-round pick CB Kevon Seymour

Statement from the Bulls website.

Bills sixth-round pick Kevon Seymour is the first member of the team's 2016 draft class to be under contract. The USC product officially became a Bill after putting pen to paper midday Wednesday.

"It feels good," Seymour told Buffalobills.com. "It's definitely a dream come true, so now that I've got this out of the way and can focus now on doing what I really love. I'm just blessed to be here and thankful."

Seymour was Buffalo's second sixth-round pick and the 218th overall selection in the draft. He had 126 career tackles for the Trojans with 19 pass breakups, three interceptions and one fumble recovery.

Getting the opportunity to meet the vets this week during sessions of the offseason conditioning program has him encouraged about blending in on the defensive side of the ball.

"I got in the locker room and the vets came back and they were all welcoming," said Seymour. "I didn't expect it, but they all welcomed me, especially the DBs. It's a great feeling. It's like family."

Most attractive about Seymour is his physical skill set after he ran a 4.39 at the NFL combine with a 35-inch vertical and 10-foot, four-inch broad jump.

"With Seymour, you've got a guy that's six-foot, runs a 4.39," said Bills GM Doug Whaley. "He's got some raw ability. Now, does he need to be more consistent? Absolutely. But in the sixth round, if you're going to take a chance on anybody, you're going to take a chance on a guy that's 6-foot, 4.39 speed, that's played at a high level and high level competition. So we're excited about him as a guy that has a high upside."

Buffalo has six other draft choices to get under contract including top pick Shaq Lawson.

Bengals add young tackle and release another

Statement from the Bengals website.

The Bengals made an in-and-out signing Wednesday when they replaced one young free agent tackle (Ohio State's Darryl Baldwin) with another (Louisville's Aaron Epps) to stay at the roster limit of 90.

The 6-6, 305-pound Epps was a try-out player during last weekend's rookie minicamp, but he already knew his way around Cincinnati since he spent the offseason working out at Ignition Sports in the suburb of Mason, Ohio.

Epps broke into the Cardinals' lineup as junior in 2014 when he made six starts and drew praise last season from his coaches for mentoring the rest of the line despite a lineup shuffle that took him out of the lineup. He ended up starting the last five games because of injuries and finished with 14 career starts. A product of Tucker, Ga., Epps left the school in highly-regarded fashion as a captain who also earned his master's degree in five years.

CB Bradberry, TE Sandland sign contracts

Cornerback James Bradberry - Carolina's second-round selection - and tight endBeau Sandland, their seventh-rounder, put pen to paper Monday.

Bradberry ranked among Samford's interception leaders each of his four seasons at the Football Championship Subdivision school, and the 6-1, 211-pounder left little doubt that he could stand tall against the big boys at the Senior Bowl.

Sandland was an FCS All-American after scoring nine touchdowns in his one season of action at Montana State. Sporting an intriguing combination of size, speed and strength, the 6-4, 253-pounder played at Miami (Fla.) in 2013 before transferring and sitting out a year.

PRESS RELEASE: Dolphins Sign Wake To Contract Extension

Statement from the Dolphons website.

The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed defensive end Cameron Wake to a contract extension through the 2017 season.

“We are pleased that we were able to reach an extension with Cam,” said Executive Vice President of Football Operations Mike Tannenbaum. “He sets the right example both on and off the field, working his way up from an undrafted college free agent to a four-time Pro Bowl selection. We are excited how he will fit in this new defense and continue to be a key contributor."

Wake, who was named to the Pro Bowl following the 2010 and the 2012-14 seasons, joined the Dolphins as a free agent in 2009 after playing two seasons in the Canadian Football League. In his seven seasons with Miami, Wake has played in 100 career games and recorded 247 tackles (201 solo), 70 sacks, 145 quarterback hits, 74 tackles for loss, 16 forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. His 70 sacks rank second all-time in Dolphins history and are seventh in NFL history among undrafted players. Wake also ranks 11th among active NFL players in career sacks and is one of just two NFL players (Julius Peppers) to total at least seven sacks in each of the past six seasons.

In 2015, Wake played in and started seven games before suffering a season-ending injury. During those seven contests, Wake totaled seven sacks and four forced fumbles. He recorded four sacks and two forced fumbles in the first half of the win at Tennessee on Oct. 18, which was tied for the most first-half sacks by a player in an NFL game since 1991. His seven sacks in three games during the 2015 season were the most ever by a Dolphins player in three consecutive games.

A Hyattsville, Maryland native, Wake was a four-year letterwinner at Penn State, primarily as a linebacker. He finished his collegiate career with 191 total tackles, two forced fumbles, 8.5 sacks and 24 tackles for loss as well as seven blocked kicks.

PRESS RELEASE: Dolphins Sign 2 More Draft Choices

Statement from the Dolphins website.

The Miami Dolphins today announced they have signed wide receiver Jakeem Grant and cornerback Jordan Lucas. Both players were selected by the Dolphins last week in the 2016 NFL draft.

He played in 50 career games with 32 starts and totaled 255 receptions for 3,289 yards (12.9 avg.) and 27 touchdowns. Grant was also the team’s primary kickoff returner during his career, and returned 87 kickoffs for 2,169 yards (24.9 avg.) and four touchdowns. As a senior, he averaged 181.0 all-purpose yards per game, leading the Big 12 and setting a single-season school record. His efforts earned him All-American and first-team All-Big 12 honors.

Lucas was also a sixth-round selection (204th overall) and a four-year lettermen (2012-15) and three-year starter for Penn State, where he played in 46 career games with 33 starts. He started 27 consecutive games before suffering a season-ending injury towards the end of his senior season. Lucas transitioned from cornerback to safety for his senior season and recorded 56 tackles (34 solo), one sack, one forced fumble and three passes defensed in just nine games. He earned third-team All-Big Ten honors at cornerback during his junior season in 2014.
