ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Broncos began the painful process of paring their roster Monday morning, waiving 10 players and releasing five-year veteran safety Brandian Ross.

The roster now stands at 79 players. The Broncos must be down to 75 by 2 p.m. MDT on Tuesday.

NOTES ON THE ROSTER MOVES:

... Three of the players waived did not receive any snaps in Saturday's preseason win over the Rams: Garner, Gibson and Shannon.

... Ross joined the team on April 18 as offseason workouts began, but the Broncos drafted Justin Simmons and Will Parks on April 29 and 30, respectively. Both rookies were ahead of Ross on the depth chart.

... Jefferson spent the final month of the 2015 regular season on the Broncos' practice squad, then remained there throughout the postseason before signing a reserve-future contract Feb. 10. He is the only player among the 11 let go who was with the Broncos in any capacity last season.

... Garner was waived on July 28, but returned to the team Aug. 19 in the wake of injuries to fellow tight ends Garrett Graham and Jeff Heuerman.

... Sankey and Gibson were late acquisitions, joining the team on July 26 and Aug. 5, respectively.
