Giants re-sign DE Jason Pierre-Paul; will sign former Jets QB Geno Smith

The New York Giants re-signed defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul to a four-year deal on Friday, and announced that they will sign former New York Jets QB Geno Smith

Pierre-Paul recorded 7.0 sacks, 53 tackles and 3 forced fumbles in 12 games (all starts) played in 2016. He has played in 75 regular-season games with 49 starts and started all 4 postseason games in which he’s played. Career regular-season totals include 319 tackles (234 solo), 42.0 sacks, 8 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries, 2 interceptions (each returned for a touchdown) and 32 passes defensed. In the postseason, JPP has 18 tackles (15 solo) and a half-sack. The 42.0 sacks place Pierre-Paul 8th on the Giants’ career list, 4 sacks behind George Martin.

In college, Pierre-Paul played at 3 colleges - College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, Calif., in 2007, Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College in 2008 and South Florida in 2009. In his 3 stops, Pierre-Paul played in 35 games, recording 161 tackles (119 solo) with 31.0 sacks for minus 180 yards, 56.0 stops for losses totaling 248 yards and 13 pressures…He forced seven fumbles and recovered 3 others, deflected 9 passes and intercepted 2 more for 38 yards in returns. In 2009, he was a 1st-team All-America selection by Pro Football Weekly and consensus All-Big East 1st-team choice. He earned team Rookie of the Year honors. A late arrival to fall camp, Pierre-Paul was originally going to be red-shirted, but the coaches relented and allowed him to play. In 2008, Pierre-Paul earned All-America and All-Jayhawk Football Conference 1st-team honors at Fort Scott Community College.

Giants DL Jason Pierre-Paul leaves game in first half vs. Steelers

New York Giants Defensive lineman Jason Pierre-Paul headed to the locker room late in the first half with a groin injury.

Giants cornerback Coty Sensabaugh (rib) is also questionable to return, the team announced.

The Giants later announced that Pierre-Paul would not return to the game.

Saints RB Mark Ingram, Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul and Lions K Matt Prater named NFC Players of Week 12

Running back Mark Ingram of the New Orleans Saints, defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul of the New York Giants and kicker Matt Prater of the Detroit Lions are the NFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for games played the 12th week of the 2016 season (November 24, 27-28).

Ingram scored two touchdowns - one on a 10-yard run, the other on a 21-yard reception - and he ran for 146 yards on just 14 carries (10.4 yards per carry) in Week 12. For the season he has 721 yards on 136 carries with threee touchdowns. He also has added 30 receptions for 248 yards and four touchdowns.

Pierre-Paul established a career-high with 3.0 sacks of Josh McCown, forced a fumble that was recovered by Kerry Wynn, and caught a ball McCown had fumbled in midair - after it was forced by Johnathan Hankins - and returned it 43 yards for his third career touchdown in Week 12.

Prater tied the game with a 48-yarder with 1:45 left to play in the game, and then nailed a game-winning 40-yarder as time expired in Week 12. He now has 12 career game-winning kicks with less than 2:00 to play in the fourth quarter or in overtime. This was the third time in Prater’s career (first with the Lions) that he has connected on a game-tying field goal with less than 2:00 minutes to play in the fourth quarter, and then made the game-winning field goal later in the fourth quarter or in OT.
