Lacy and Shields out for season for Packers

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) Running back Eddie Lacy and cornerback Sam Shields will stay on injured reserve for the rest of the season, with the Green Bay Packers planning to activate cornerback Makinton Dorleant from injured reserve.

Coach Mike McCarthy said on Wednesday that Dorleant, an undrafted rookie free agent, would be activated for the game Monday night at Philadelphia.

NFL teams can designate one player to come off injured reserve.

The Packers have been without their top cornerbacks in Shields (concussion) and Damarious Randall (groin) for much of the season. Quinten Rollins is coming back from a groin injury, and Demetri Goodson suffered a serious knee injury last week against Washington.

Shields, the Packers' top cornerback, got hurt in the season opener after suffering his second concussion in 10 months.

"Really, the conversation with Sam, I know particularly mine with him is he needs to get healthy for himself and his family," McCarthy said before practice. "That needs to be his focus and it is his focus."

Lacy has been out since Week 5 with an ankle injury. The physical back had been returning to his hard-charging form when a recurring ankle injury sidelined him.

The injuries and depth questions have taken tolls in the areas of both pass coverage and the running game.

Green Bay has also signed linebacker Derrick Matthews to the practice squad. Matthews was in Green Bay for part of training camp, and also spent some time last season on the Washington Redskins' practice squad.
