Quarterback Derek Carr of the Oakland Raiders, cornerback Bradley Roby of the Denver Broncos and punter Shane Lechler of the Houston Texans are the AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for games played the eighth week of the 2016 season (October 27, 30-31).
40-of-59 passing for 513 yards, 4 touchdowns, 0 interceptions for a 117.4 passer rating, and 1 rush for 13 yards in the Raiders 30-24 overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With Sunday’s effort, he became only the third player in NFL history to pass for 500 yards, 4 touchdowns and 0 interceptions in a game.
Roby made his first start of the 2016 season in place of Aqib Talib, totaling seven tackles, two passes defensed and the 49-yard pick-six. His pick-six in the second quarter altered the divisional game in Denver’s favor, giving the Broncos the lead for good in their eventual 29-17 win over the Chargers.
Lechler punted four times for 203 yards, averaging 50.8 gross yards per punt. Detroit’s average starting field position following his four punts was on their own 13-yard line. Lechler averaged 49.5 net yards per punt, which led the NFL in Week 8 (min. 4 punts). He also pinned 3-of-4 punts inside the 20-yard line, which tied for the second-highest total in the league that week. Playing in his 262nd career game, Lechler tied Ray Brown for the 27th-most games played in NFL history.
